History of Noe.cx
Early 2000, I was looking for a domain name to get a personal website and to get personal email addresses for myself and some members of my family.
A quick search on the Internet showed that Noe under the well known top level domainnames (.com, .net and .org) was already taken.
I looked also for the .be top level domain since I live in Belgium.
But this one was also taken. Finally I found that noe.cx was still available.
Recently, Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) have been introduced.
Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) are domain names or Web addresses, represented by local language characters.
IDNs are available in more than 350 languages. At last, it will be possible to browse to
noë.com for example.
To keep all future options open, I registered already
Noë.com.
IDN domainnames are currently translated into a domain name with only ASCII characters inthere. Noë.com for example is translated into
xn--no-ija.com.
Unfortunately, a lot of browsers (e.g. MS Internet Explorer 6.0) and email clients do not support these new domain names.
What does .cx stand for?
cx stands for Christmas Island. The Christmas Island is located in the Indian Ocean, south of Indonesia.
You can find more info about it
here.
